N2 - The initial manifestation of Crohn's disease is often located within the terminal ileum. Other portions of the G.I. tract may be affected, however, as the disease involves the entire organ system. The disease often progresses chronically in flares and remissions and involves all layers of the intestinal wall, leading to strictures, stenosis and fistulas. These complications should only be treated surgically when clinically relevant in order to prevent acute exacerbations.
