Digitaliserung im Krankenhaus

Abstract

Background
New technological developments are the prerequisite for numerous digitalization projects. When introducing new technologies, stress factors and strain reactions must be taken into account. Hospitals are one area in which the possibilities and potentials of digitalization have not yet been fully exploited.

Research question
Using the example of digital hospital information systems, this review article aims to summarize existing study results that have recorded both stress factors in the use of these digital technologies and the experience of stress, as well as influences on the utilization behavior and job satisfaction of employees.

Results
The studies presented depict various stress factors (e.g. complexity) in the use of digital hospital information systems. Connections to the experience of stress and to job satisfaction and utilization behavior have been assessed differently in a few studies. Organizational culture and employee participation are discussed as moderating influencing factors for implementation and satisfaction in the use of digital technologies in hospitals.

Conclusion
The current state of studies shows that there are still only few well-founded findings in this topic area; however, the current developments also make it clear that the topic area has great significance and relevance. Therefore, more research is needed to investigate associations between the use of digital technologies in hospitals and psychosocial stress factors as well as strain reactions of medical staff in hospitals. This can contribute to the user-friendly further development of technologies and specific operational support services.
