Abstract

The majority of the population in industrialized countries develop overweight during their lives and in a large proportion obesity with the manifold health risks especially with respect to cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The desire to lose weight is counteracted by the regulation of appetite and satiation. This regulation mechanism fixes the weight in an individually very different range. In order to undercut this range a reduced calorie diet must be permanently adhered to, supported by sufficient physical activity to maintain the musculature. Daily weighing is the most effective corrective measure.
