N2 - In this paper the German Society for Medical Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine (DGIIN) provides statements regarding the importance and advancement of Medical Intensive Care Medicine within the structures of Internal Medicine in Germany. Of pivotal importance are the training of medical intensivists, the cooperation with intensivists from other disciplines and the collaboration with emergency departments.
