N2 - A pilot study was performed to determine the efficacy of low energy biphasic external cardioversion in common type atrial flutter. In the majority of patients (70%) successful cardioversion was achieved with low energy levels of 20 or 30 J; however a considerable number of patients (15%) were initially cardioverted to atrial fibrillation, needing an additional cardioversion with an even higher energy level.
